Drug use is up in the U.S. Air Force. In 2000, 1,300 men and women flunked drug tests. This is a fifty percent increase over 1999, and four times the number caught in 1998. Some 80 percent of air force enlisted personnel were tested during 2000. Part of the increase in the last two years has to do with more testing, and especially the testing of all recruits (who have a drug use rate four times that of other air force personnel.) The most common drug found was marijuana (74 percent) and cocaine (12 percent). Up and coming is the Disco drug, Ecstasy (five percent, versus less than two percent the year before.)
