A Ugandan government spokesman claimed the Ugandan forces had killed Cobra Obedi Birungi, a senior commander in the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebel group. Some 45 other guerrillas were killed in the fight. The Ugandan report said the Ugandan Army attacked an ADF position on Kija Hill (Kitagwenda county in Kamwenge district). The ADF group was on its way to a base area in the Rwenzori Mountains (Uganda-DRC border area). The ADF has been active since 1996. The ADF allegedly receives some support from the DRC (Kabila) government.
